Will Nicholson: From Investor to Web3 Consultant to Incubater Capital Founder

Jul 17, 2025

In the bustling world of startups, where buzzwords often overshadow substance, it's easy to dismiss emerging trends as mere hype. Yet, every so often, an individual comes along who cuts through the noise, driven not by fleeting fads but by a deep desire to solve real problems. Will Nicholson is one such individual, a young, Australian-based computer science student whose journey into the heart of Web3 reveals a compelling vision for the future of capital.

For many, "web3" still conjures images of speculative assets and complex jargon. Nicholson, however, sees something far more fundamental: a new infrastructure for transparency, efficiency, and community that can reshape how entrepreneurs build and fund their ventures. His perspective isn't theoretical - it's forged from personal experience.

Nicholson’s journey into the Web3 space began not as a wide-eyed idealist, but as a pragmatic participant. For multiple years, he was deeply immersed in the industry as a successful investor. This wasn't just about making money. It was about understanding the mechanics, the flows, and critically, the inherent flaws of the systems in place. He witnessed firsthand the frustrations, the inefficiencies, and difference the web3 world had to the web2 world.

This experience was a turning point. It wasn't enough to simply navigate the existing landscape. As a result, Nicholson felt a growing imperative to fix it. His computer science background, combined with his direct exposure to the challenges of capital formation in a rapidly evolving digital economy, ignited a clear mission to build a better, fairer system for founders.

To build the initial success frameworks, Nicholson started off as web3 consultant, individually assisting startups launch as the “behind-the-scenes-guy”. Then, everything clicked. Nicholson, alongside co-founder Nathan Chen, launched Incubater Capital, a “new-generation” venture capital that raises capital for startups without giving away equity, direction and even build a community, awareness on top - all without paid advertising.

But where does all this drive come from? When I spoke to Nicholson, he said, all of this stems from a place familiar to many young, ambitious entrepreneurs: a blend of technical curiosity, a competitive spirit honed through avid sports, and a "work hard, play hard" ethos. Nicholson envisions a world where founders can raise capital rapidly, retain full ownership of their companies, and simultaneously build a passionate community of supporters – all without the cumbersome overhead of traditional fundraising.

For those navigating the complexities of capital raising today, Will's journey offers a compelling glimpse into a future where funding is less about chasing, and more about building together, and most importantly, the philosophy of “build for the customer - not the investor”.
